More efficient models of solar panel are being held back from release by firms struggling to cope as price of existing stocks continue to plummet. P-type technologies are the most mainstream solar product being sold on the market, but competitive pricing and manufacturing has meant that the industry cannot afford to invest in research for new, more effective N-type technology.

Solar panels grow more efficient with each passing year. Spurred by private and government sponsored research, efficiency records in thin film solar modules fell at least three times in the past year. Competing technologies spark this race to converting sunlight into electricity, which currently hovers at about 17.4% efficiency.

There are three main systems for using this type of energy in a home and each of them in their own way can have a very positive influence in the supply of energy to the home. All these systems operate on the same principle of using solar panels to collect energy from sunlight which is freely available.

The growth of the environmental movement has led to the popularity of do it yourself solar panels. Many individuals are looking for ways to harness energy in a safe and sustainable manner. As opposed to energy sources that produce an almost obscene amount of carbon monoxide, solar panels generate lots of energy using the heat source of the sun. No unhealthy by-products come from this process and a person can successfully power and heat his or her home. Before undertaking this task, it is best to do some research and become aware of the best ways to install these panels.

Solar power is collected by placing photovoltaic cells (solar cells) in a location that receives direct sunlight. The sunlight knocks loose electrons from the silicon-phosphorus bond and a current is created when the loose electron travels to the silicon-boron bond. This seemingly simple solution for our energy needs will play a huge role in our transition from fossil fuels to a cleaner renewable energy resource.

Solar energy is the most technologically advanced of our clean renewable energies. It has a wide variety of applications, it can be applied to homes, cars, businesses, street lamps, along with a multitude of others. There have been recent technological advances that not only would allow solar panels to be more effective, but also be used in places in which space is a concern. The more people who use or adopt the use of solar panels to help curb their dependence on the electric company, the more research and growth will speed development of better solar solutions.
